Knockaround Hang Time Campeones ($55) and Astro Climb Torrey Pines Sport ($38) Sunglasses
Ben: The Astro Climb Torrey Pines Sport offered my first foray with Knockaround sunglasses. Founded by Adam ‘Ace’ Moyer twenty years ago, Knockaround has grown significantly from its early days when he launched the brand out of a UC San Diego art studio.
They are now the official eyewear of the PGA Tour and make, in addition to sunglasses, t-shirts, tank tops, towels and snow goggles.
They’ve also collaborated with multiple professional sports teams as well as the Grateful Dead (which is a big win in my book). The brand is still based in San Diego, now with a massive following. I was excited to test out my first pair while Beto tested the Hang Time Campeones.
Astro Climb Torrey Pines Sport ($38)
To me, the glasses feel slightly oversized, which I actually appreciate. They offer great coverage,
in snappy colors. The Astro Climb colorway is a kind of blue-gray with blue-green lenses. It’s very sleek.
Other catchy colorways are Coyote Calls and Pop! (I also really like Victory Lap and Sleigh Tracks). There’s absolutely no slippage, a key for runners.
The best part is that these sell for all of $38. These are simple, easy, functional glasses that certainly don’t take themselves too seriously.
Comparisons:
Goodr BFG
I’ve been wearing Goodr’s for a long time and always liked the fit of the BFG.I actually like the oversized feel of the Knockaround better and see that they offer far more colorways than Goodr does for the BFG.
Hang Time Campeones ($55)
Beto: The Hang Time Campeones are large versatile sunglasses that I tested Running, Cycling and Flag Football.
They have a blue-green shade that looks amazing when worn, especially in pictures. They really stand out and the protection from the sun is great.
They are light and they don’t bounce while running and also stay in place when doing fast moves like playing flag football and the rubber pieces on the nose are flexible and can help if you accidentally get hit in the lenses.
The pink rubber pieces help to keep the glasses in place with perfect fit as they are a bit flexible so one can adjust to grip just right..
They have a wide range of view which is appreciated while cycling and playing sports.
The Hang Time Campeones go for $55 usd and the price is in a sweet spot for the quality as they are well made and good quality materials. The lenses have resisted some scratching which I appreciate.
They are very light for the size with a wide range of view but most importantly they don’t bounce which is what I always look for in sport shades.
Comparison:
Tifosi Moab (RTR Review): The Moab has a similar design lens that Tifosi offer which are made with high quality and comes with a case, bag and 2 extra lenses the Smoke, Clear and Clarion Red Foto Tec. The Clarion has a very nice view in low light conditions which I really enjoy when the sun is going down or when sunrise.
These can compare to Knockaround Campeones as they have a similar design but the quality feels a bit higher.
The main difference is that Moab comes with 2 extra lenses but are a bit higher in price $80 vs $55. Both lenses perform great in the same testing. I see the Tifosi Moab as a good investment if you want extra lenses and a case to protect the lenses but if you want something more fun, the Knockaround Campeones are a great choice to choose for the price and quality.
