Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next % ($275)
I take the Alphafly for a first tempo run along the coast of New Hampshire and the shoe that ran the fastest marathon in history, sub 2 hours.
It does not disappoint in its bottomless cushion, improved stability, smooth ride and Atomknit highly breathable, secure, and roomy upper. A very leg friendly, fast ride even for my more pedestrian paces.
The video details the shoe's construction, tech, and features gives the ride, fit, and feel results of my first run and also compares the Alphafly to the Next%, original Vaporfly 4% and Saucony Endorphin Pro.
With a 40mm heel and 36mm forefoot it gains 4mm more stack in the forefoot in part to accommodate Air Zoom pods and is now, compared to Next% by the numbers, a 4mm drop shoe instead of 8mm. Weight for my US size 8.5 is 207g / 7.3 oz so a US size 9 should check in around 7.5 oz / 212g. This is a gain in weight over the Next% which is 6.6 oz / 187 g and has the same but narrower and notably less stable 40mm heel and 32mm forefoot and no Air Zoom pods.
