Patagonia Women’s Strider Pro Shorts - 3 ½ “ ($79)
The Strider Pro Shorts are Patagonia’s most technical running shorts and fall under the category of “trail running shorts” but are also designed for activities such as “running, casual wear, and hiking” - as per specs.
After several weeks of wear, I would categorize them as versatile, more than specifically designed for trail running.
The fit is true to size and the shorts are extremely comfortable. For a trail running short, the 3 ½” seam is on the short side, yet the coverage is good as the length of the shorts is longer in the back than in the front.
A mid-rise fit with a wide waistband that is adjustable via an internal drawcord, the shorts sit comfortably and securely around my waist just below my belly button.
Made with quick-drying and lightweight fabrics, the overall feel of the Strider Pro Shorts is airy and minimalist so you can focus on your run.
As per the specs, the liner briefs are 100% recycled polyester double knit with mi Dori™ bioSoft for added wicking and softness, and HeiQ® Mint odor control. I feel good and confident with the liner briefs against my skin and grateful for the added softness and moisture-wicking properties of the miDori™ bioSoft and long lasting freshness from the plant-based deodorizer, HeiQ® Mint.
The shorts are well ventilated and the liner brief is highly breathable along with being lightweight - 98 g (3.5 oz).
The mesh waistband features 3 storage pockets, with two partitioned side-pockets and a zippered pocket in the back.
The storage is adequate for gels and small valuables, such as a credit card and a keyfob, however, the zippered pocket is too small to hold my Iphone 16 Pro in basic Apple case.
The waistband would have to be wider and the zippered pocket longer in order to fit an Iphone, something that I would personally value.
The Strider Pro Shorts have been my go-to shorts when road and trail running and I would consider wearing them on a day-hike in hot weather conditions.
They have a sleek design that I favor over longer inseams or high waisted running shorts.
They are available in 8 attractive colors and in many sizes from XXS to XL.
For runners who gravitate towards a minimalist feel with just the right amount of coverage, the mid-rise fit and 3 ½ “ seam Strider Pro Shorts are amazingly versatile and deliver long lasting comfort and are flattering.
