RD Singlet -Sphinx ($110)
Ben: I had the pleasure of testing the Spinx singlet. It is extremely lightweight (like seriously lightweight), almost weightless.
It also runs somewhat roomy, with more than ample space in the neckline and beneath the arms. Some people might appreciate this for race day, while some might want something a bit more form-fitting. Maybe I’m just overly accustomed to the streamlined Tracksmith fit at this point, but I found it almost too roomy.
It’s certainly made for summer and is highly breathable and super ventilated. As noted above, it also runs a bit long. With all of this in mind, some might choose to size down. The colorway I was sent is novel and sleek without being in any way obnoxious or overly loud. This is a very well-made singlet and surely will be highly durable and well-received by runners looking for something of high quality.
M FSTTight Short 8” - Silver Pine
Ben: I also tested the Ciele M FSTTight Shorts. These are a well-made, sleek, form-hugging tight, with multiple features designed with the runner in mind.
The most noticeable element is that they fit snug, in a way that I appreciate from a half-tight. While compressive, I found them to be highly comfortable; they want to move with you. You feel sleek and fast in these. This cannot be said about all of the half-tights on the market now.
According to the Ciele website, the shorts are made with a unique “PLUS KLOSfit™ interlock knit fabric” with anti-odor finish. They have an “inner COOLmatic | PLUS VITALmesh™ liner” with wicking and odor control. They also contain reflective elements for night (or early morning) running.
The Ciele half tights also offer a number of additional features, which runners will certainly appreciate, especially those who intend to be on their feet for longer distances.
There is a deep, expansive pocket on each leg. These can each hold multiple gels and a phone.
There is also a “daisy chain” which operates like a pseudo-belt and can be used to rig up a sweaty singlet; I can see this coming in handy on long summer runs. All in all these are some of the best half tights I’ve worn and likely worth the $80 price tag.
