 Brief Descriptions and Impressions

Update: Full review of the Fitbit Ionic is here
Fitbit Ionic ($300) is the brand's first phone free GPS on board smart watch. It has a very decent basic run tracking mode, on board music storage, contactless payments, all the great Fitbit health and fitness insights, and a spectacular, very bright, colorful screen and animated interface. A mere 46 grams, my Apple Watch 2 weighs 60 grams, it is super light and comfortable on the wrist for all day wear and doubles the Apple Watch 2 and 3's battery life.

Garmin Vivosport

Garmin Vivosport ($200). The smallest size lightest  (25 grams) band style smarter watch with GPS and HR to date from any major brand. Totally unobtrusive it disappears on the wrist yet has a bright and legible tiny screen and basic run stats including HR and Average and Lap Paces even elevation as it has a barometric altimeter. Despite its tiny size and being completely buttonless it is easy to operate and includes auto workout detection, notifications, music control, sleep tracking, stress monitoring and more.

Suunto Spartan Trainer Outside

Suunto Spartan Trainer ($279 and up). A smaller form factor, stylish and rugged GPS and HR watch with a great simple interface on a somewhat dim in the sun screen with some digits also small.  For sure wear it on your dominant wrist to get more accurate HR readings. Dozens of easy to configure Sports Modes are available. Unusual for the price point and reflecting Suunto's mountain focus, the Spartan Trainer lets you upload routes and follow the breadcrumbs.
