Hoka ONE ONE Spring 2018 Previews-Fly Line with Mach,Cavu, & Elevon; Evo Jawz Racer, Update to Challenger ATR 4

Hoka ONE ONE released details on key Spring 2018 models today.
Post will be updated with stats and details  as we receive them.

The Fly line will have 3 models: Mach-a direct successor to the Clayton, Cavu-a new performance trainer, and Evelon- a direct successor to Vanquish.

Fly models will have a new ProFLY dual density midsole with the softer heel foam for protection and a firmer forefoot foam for response and propulsion, an approach first seen in the Clayton and Tracer.

Mach ($140) 8.2 oz/231 grams (M9), 6.7 oz./190 g (W8) is adapted from the Clayton and replaces it, so is a light, highly cushioned performance trainer racer. It has a 20mm forefoot/ 24 mm heel stack,  4mm drop without sock liner so the same as Clayton 2.  Mach will be available in February 2018.

Men's Hoka ONE ONE Mach
It gains 0.3 oz over the Clayton, drops $10 in price, and has a new engineered mesh breathable upper on a new last which is the same as the new Clifton 4 last. The foam is upgraded to a new higher quality grade, same as in Clifton 4 but different firmness with higher resiliency and which tested with high energy efficiency on the run.  It has "inherent stability" from Hoka's active foot frame.  While not illustrated below, it has a wishbone outsole pattern wth "sipes" or cuts in the forefoot which could  improve the flex over the stiff Clayton, a good thing. It has the same lively RMAT outsole/midsole at road level.
We loved the Clayton 2 despite some irritation issues under the arch. The images appear to potentially show a new midsole design somewhat lower side walls near the front and given the new last and upper we hope the irritation issue is finally licked.

Women's Hoka ONE ONE Mach
Cavu ($110) 8.2 oz/231 grams (M9), 6.6 oz./188 g (W8) is called out as a serious shoe which will work as a trainer racer for entry level runners. It will be available February 2018.

Men's Hoka ONE ONE Cavu
It has a simple design with an seamless engineered mesh upper and inner mid foot Lycra bootie. Also with the ProFLY dual density midsole it has a thinner RMAT outsole than the Clayton and a stack without sock liner of 18mm forefoot/22 mm heel, 4mm drop.  Given its lower stack it may be a bit more flexible than the Mach. The Cavu will be firmer than the Mach and is designed to compete with the likes of the Saucony Kinvara and New Balance Vazee Pace.
Women's Hoka ONE ONE Cavu
Elevon ($160) is a direct replacement for the Vanquish 2 so a springy, dual midsole layered, cushioned, premium neutral ride.
Men's Hoka ONE ONE Elevon
With a 30mm heel/25mm forefoot and weighing 10.5 oz./297 g M9 , 8.6 oz 245g W9 it has new open engineered mesh upper. The top layer of the midsole is ProFly, the bottom is injection molded foam with the geometry creating a suspension ride. It should be a bit stiffer and more stable than the Vanquish 2. It is expected to be available March 2018.
Women's Hoka ONE ONE Elevon
The Challenger ATR 4  ($130) 9 oz./254g (M9), 7.4 oz./209 g (W7) stays the same underfoot but gets a more extensive toe cap and a more durable and breathable mesh upper with fewer overlays. With its cleaner less busy and more breathable upper the often called "Clifton for trails" is said to look even more like the Clifton.

Evo Jawz ($130) is a new 7.2 oz/204 g (M9) soft ground uncertain terrain racing shoe with 6mm lugs. The weight is amazing for a trail shoe.
Hoka ONE ONE Evo Jawz
The upper is woven ripstop so we imagine it will absorb very little water and drain well. The outsole is Vibram MegaGrip. It has a lower profile version of the the trademark Hoka active foot frame where the foot sits down in the midsole. The midsole is ProFly as in the Mach and Cavu so softer heel firmer forefoot in a 21mm (heel) 18mm (forefoot) for men; 19mm/16mm for women stack, so 5mm drop. It is expected to be available in March 2018.

Man, Hoka is REALLY upping it's game on the design front. These all not only look hot, but the Challenger looks like vastly better upper too. Obviously we'll need to wait and see, but the removal of all the overlays with the addition of what looks like fairly significant mid foot support could be just perfect. So excited.

The uppers of my ATR 3s are some of the least durable trail shoes I've had. I hope the new 4s are better!

Wow, the mach looks incredible. Lightweight cushion, that new upper and J-Frame sounds pretty much perfect!

Quote Dan:

I'm very disappointed by the fast wear; much faster than the shoe itself is.
Outsole lasted less than a pencil eraser; upper ripped in several places.
And I can't call myself lucky having paid half the retail price for them, because overall satisfaction was less than half the value.

I believe the clayton will still be made, the Mach is just a Light stability version of that shoe.

No. Midway through developing the "Clayton 3" they decided on a name change. I don't believe they were ever satisfied with the name "Clayton" (it was originally going to be 'Rocket Trainer' before it ever debuted and switched to 'Clayton'. Now they've switched it again to 'Mach'. Even some of the early Mach wear test models actually say 'Clayton 3' on them)

Ah thanks for making that clear, from the picture it also looks like they are using the same type of mesh as the Hupana.

In their announcements for Spring 2018, did they mention any updates to the Arahi? Thanks!

Hi Anonymous,
The only change to the Arahi will be an all new upper with focus on more breathability, especially over the top of the foot.
