adidas Terrex 2017 Previews: Terrex Fast GTX, Agravic Speed, Trail Cross SL, Agravic Alpha Shield Hoodie and Windshirt.

Article by Sam Winebaum

adidas's outdoor oriented products have been distributed under the adidas Outdoor name. In 2017 the line is re-named adidas Terrex. We were told adidas is now the fastest growing footwear brand in the US. adidas trail runners and hiking shoe while not as well known in the US as in Europe are fantastic. Road Trail Run has reviewed 6 different models from the XT Boost racer to the radical modular mountain bike tire inspired X-King. All our adidas reviews are here
All the products previewed here  will be available February 2017,

Terrex Fast GTX-Surround ($225)
So what is a "hiking boot" doing leading off our adidas Terrex coverage? Well this Gore-Tex Surround marvel, weighs not much more than many trail runners at 13.6 oz/386 g (men's 9). With an aggressive Continental outsole it remains relatively flexible and will be a great choice for winter running in sloppy conditions, snowshoeing and fast packing in all conditions.
 adidas Terrex Fast GTX-Surround
The Terrex Fast features a special adidas implementation of Gore's Surround boot construction. Surround footwear combines a special lighter and more breathable Gore fabric under the foot with channels in the shoe to force moisture out. An added bonus is that Surround shoes tend to be more flexible than the typical Gore-Tex bootie construction. We previously tested a light hiker with Surround and found it considerably more comfortable in warmer temperatures than a typical Gore-Tex footwear and as flexible as a running shoe.
In a rare agreement, as Gore is very strict on the design of products using their technologies. adidas convinced them to allow a unique design for the channels under the foot that evacuate moisture.

The Terrex Fast channels are in a different pattern and also more angled. Instead of being flat they angle to the front of the shoe thus enhancing the movement of moisture out the sides as you walk or run. We can't wait to try the Terrex Fast.

Terrex Agravic Speed ($120)
Seemingly taking the place of one of our favorite all time fast trail shoes the XT Boost in the adidas line up as the speedster the Agravic Speed comes in at 9.2oz/260 g and has an EVA midsole and sticky Continental outsole.

Terrex Trail Cross SL  ($130)
The 15.5 oz/440 g  Trail Cross is definitely not a trail runner...but is a super versatile all mountain activity shoe with a 3 zoned Stealth rubber outsole for hiking, mountain biking, and some light approach climbing.

Agravic Alpha Shield Hoodie ($159)
The Alpha Shield Hoodie was the star of the adidas line up for us. An incredibly light 6.3 oz/180 g Pertex Quantum shell with a very, very thin layer of Polartec Alpha in the chest area. Polartec Alpha was originally developed for US Special Forces who required a very light, compressible insulation which was  highly adaptable in breathability and insulation to static and dynamic activities,  The Alpha Shield
jacket will be ideal for our winter runs along the damp, windy, cold New England Coast as well as early morning runs and Nordic skis in Park City.

Agravic Wind Shirt ($149)
This very simple and light 4.1oz/ 117 g  Pertex Equilibrium 1/2 zip short sleeve is the ideal companion for those breezy wet days where a full shell would be to warm.
