New Castle NH Run in Pictures: History and Water

Some days on the run when the weather is crisp and clear and the legs sore you just want to sight see. So I did that on the New Castle "loop" Usually you can loop this run, about 6.8 miles but as a bridge is being rebuilt I did an out and back with variations.
South End of Portsmouth

The white house dates to 1647.

New Castle Beach

Turned around at the restored Wentworth By the Sea Hotel- Hotel New Hampshire of John Irving book fame

A small dirt road cuts off "Downtown" New Castle

A deer is just to the right and below the crooked tree in the center

Another "Hotel". The Castle. Former US Naval Prison. In the movie The Last Detail Jack Nickelson is taking the prisoner here.

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard dates from 1800. Submarine repair and Coast Guard base, the white ships.

Lobstah' Boats

South End of Portsmouth and Memorial Bridge

Ended my run at Strawberry Banke and fortunately did not end up in this very ancient graveyard.
