Tracksmith Fall 2025 Women's Overland Short & Long Sleeve, Windbreaker and Short Tights Review

Article by Courtney Kelly and Sally Reiley

Tracksmith Women’s Fall 2025 Overland Apparel Collection

Introduction

Courtney: The Overland Collection is Tracksmith’s long awaited new trail apparel collection. Tracksmith, as always, promises classic style and I was eager to test “Where MY miles would wander” in the Windbreaker, Short Sleeve and Short Tights.

Sally: I have long been a huge fan of the Tracksmith brand, from the high quality traditional prep/ivy league vibe running apparel to the Boston Trackhouse community and the all inclusive group training runs on Sundays on the Boston Marathon course. Their road running and racing apparel is top notch; my go-to marathon race day shorts are the Session Short, and my all-time favorite winter running layer is the merino Brighton long sleeve.

But now Tracksmith is branching out to take care of the growing number of New England (and everywhere) trail runners with this new collection of apparel they are calling the Overland Collection. The collection includes trail running shorts, long and short sleeve tops, a windbreaker, and  a hydration vest.

They also introduced a new trail running shoe the Eliot Range that I have been testing as seen in the photos, see Ben and Sam's review which I will be joining soon.

I have been wearing and enjoying the Overland windbreaker, the merino long sleeve top, and the women’s half tights (shorts) and have mostly positive things to say about all of the pieces.

Overland Windbreaker $215

The Overland Windbreaker in the Iron colorway is a wind and water repellent jacket with merino wool details that make it an easy choice in cooler, inclement  weather. Its mock neck silhouette and storage pockets (including a self-packing zipper pocket) make it the perfect companion for New England trail running.

The merino wool collar and underarm panels are soft elements of the jacket making for irritation-free running.

The PFC-free water repellent surface that is both dry and breathable without harmful fluorocarbon compounds. The jacket also features 37.5 Technology to manage temperature and  sweat by pulling moisture away from skin in a chemical free way.

Fit

The Overland is tailored enough to be streamlined, but loose and flexible enough to allow full movement for running. It hits above the hip and I found it to be an excellent fit in my normal size xs. It's a perfect extra layer for when the weather is slightly cool. Because it’s Tracksmith I also found the jacket to be a great lifestyle choice for cooler days out and about.

Performance:

Courtney:I found the Overland Windbreaker to be a great extra layer in light rain and windy weather. It is semi water resistant and definitely not something you would choose for very rainy conditions as it does absorb water.

The side hand pockets are zipperless and that is a bit pointless in a running jacket, except for stuffing a hat and gloves.

The self packing pocket is a brilliant idea and works well with the elastic Tracksmith signature red and white band for carrying or fastening to a run belt.

Sally:  The Overland windbreaker is a great layer when temperatures cool and a long sleeve tee is not quite enough, and when it is damp or lightly raining. It is water repellent but not waterproof enough nor does it have a hood for heavier rain, but that is why it is called a windbreaker and not called a rain jacket.

I also question why the two side seam drop in hand pockets don’t zip closed; that feature makes the jacket seem more “casual.” The NDO winter running jacket similarly has open hand pockets.

The merino sections of the underarm panels and lining the internal collar are a really nice touch for comfort and moisture and odor management.

Overall, the soft drape and slight stretch and the easy yet performance fit of this jacket make it a great cooler but not for me cold weather running layer that I will reach for often this fall.

Overland Short Sleeve $115

Courtney:The Overland Short Sleeve in the Faded Myrtle colorway is a relaxed fit tee made of merino mesh with durable shoulders for pack protection and  with built in odor resistance.

The shirt is treated with 37.5 Technology, a chemical free treatment that helps regulate temperature.

Fit: The Overland Short Sleeve is a looser fitting t-shirt that allows movement and comfort. As someone with a shorter torso, I was not surprised to find the length was long and hit my hip. I like how this length pairs with the half tights. My size XS was perfect.

Performance:

The shoulders are water resistant which makes those rainy or dewy mornings on the trails drier and more comfortable while also making them more durable while wearing a pack or race vest, think fall hikes and runs .

Although the t-shirt is soft and quite comfortable, it felt too warm for humid, warmer weather. On cooler mornings the shirt performed well, but even so, there were noticeable sweat marks on the front and back.

Perhaps something to note if you are self conscious about this. I found the t-shirt to have good odor resistance and it will be a t- shirt I keep for a long time due to the combination of merino and 37.5 technology. There are frictionless seams for ultimate comfort and style.

Tracksmith W’s Overland Long Sleeve $125

Sally:The Overland Long Sleeve is similarly made of a lightweight merino mesh with 37.5 technology to provide an odor-resistant and thermoregulating next to skin layer for your long trail (and road) runs. Like the short sleeve tee, it features woven shoulder and back yoke overlays to provide protection from the abrasion of a pack or hydration vest.

It also features thumb holes on the amply long sleeves, a much welcomed feature that is new to Tracksmith tops. But like the new merino Harrier top, the thumb holes are weirdly positioned on the sleeve - the sleeve has to twist for the thumbs to fit in the opening. The thumb holes are on the bottom of the wrist, not the top, as if your pinky finger is supposed to fit in the opening? A slight tweak that will improve performance immensely!

The Overland long sleeve fits true to size (I wear XS) and is pleasantly loose enough to allow free range of motion. The length is perfect for me - not too long and constraining on the hips as some tops are, but also not a self-conscious cropped length.

As Courtney mentions, the merino blend fabric is heavier than other Tracksmith tops such as my winter base layer staple the Brighton, and as a result is best suited for cooler weather. It makes sense for a long sleeve top to be warm, but not so much a short sleeve tee. The classic good looks and the sublime comfort of this top, combined with the moderately heavy merino blend fabric and the no-stink 37.5 tech, will make this a fall running top I will reach for often. It doesn’t need washing often, but I did put it through the laundry and it washes beautifully. All in all, a great trail running or otherwise layer from Tracksmith.

Overland Short Tights $135

The Iron colorway Overland Short Tights come with Tracksmith’s trademark red and white striped interior band and sport an orange drawstring for a just right fit.

The ultra soft performance fabric is smooth and comfortable and does not ride up on the thigh. They feature 5 storage pockets (including key loop). A durable coating on the mesh pockets prevents snagging on branches. The core of the shorts is made of 62% Nylon, 38% Elastane.

Fit:

The Overland Shorts fit snug to the body while also allowing plenty of movement and flexibility. The thinner material hugs the body but doesn’t squeeze too tight.

Performance:

The Overland Short Tights have 5 pockets of various sizes, and this makes a lot of sense for a trail runner to stash ALL THE SNACKS.

The lumbar pocket provides great storage for an iPhone with a zipper for extra security. My iPhone 15 fits well in the pocket but I remove the case for all my running. There are smaller mesh pockets on either side that can store a key (by the way, has cord loop inside for extra lockdown of items) or fuel for the run.

There are also two larger mesh side pockets that offer additional storage for fuel, a collapsible water bottle, or perhaps an extra piece of clothing.

I appreciate the functionality of the Overland collection, but also the attention to aesthetics.

The pockets are placed high on the waist and are angled in a flattering way. The higher pocket puts the weight of the items you are carrying more at the hips rather than on your legs. This is fantastic as I don’t love the weight of items stored lower on the leg.

The details of color pops and logos tastefully placed make these shorts something you feel confident and comfortable in.

The Overland Shorts fit snug to the body while also allowing plenty of movement and flexibility. The seamless details make for a frictionless run.

They are SO comfortable! I do think Tracksmith would do well with a black colored short as the lighter colored fabric shows sweat marks.

Sally: With a 5" inseam, Overland Half Tights for women are really like shorts in my mind . Courtney details the features thoroughly so I won’t repeat all the details. The 62% nylon / 38% elastane fabric is super soft to the touch and comfortable while being just compressive enough. And the five pockets offer ample storage for fuel and gear and phone, all comfortably snug to the body yet easily accessible.

The fit is nicely true to size (XS actually fits now) , the waist band not at all constricting (so unlike the Tracksmith tights of earlier years, when I would have to size up in order to be able to breathe). There is an internal drawstring if you need it.

All in all, the half tight is a well thought out piece that can comfortably handle a full day on the trail and carry a full day’s worth of snacks - and stylishly.
