SHYU Racing Socks ($19 / 23€) & SHYU x Black Sheep Fly Singlet (81€)
Introduction
The SHYU brand has made a name for itself in the running scene—not with shoes, but with well-designed accessories specifically aimed at ambitious runners. I had the opportunity to test two of their current products in training and competition: the Racing Socks in white/black/red and the new Fly Singlet, which was developed in collaboration with Black Sheep Cycling.
SHYU Racing Socks
(white / black / red) (silver / red / steel) (black / red / red) (white / midnight / fluro)
First impression & design
Nils: As soon as you unpack them, you notice that these socks are not just functional—they make a statement. None of the colors used were chosen at random, but are based on the color palettes of current competition shoes from brands such as Nike, adidas, and ASICS. I personally had the opportunity to test models that are color-coordinated with current adidas competition shoes. But of course, they also go great with other models.
The color options (white/midnight/fluorescent) are a bit different: they go perfectly with the SHYU x Black Sheep Fly Singlet, which we also tested here. So, with SHYU, if you're looking for a cool race-day outfit, you'll find it here.
Markus: When you first put them on, you immediately notice the excellent workmanship. The socks feel soft yet sturdy. A special feature is the very flat seams in the toe area, which minimize the risk of friction and blisters. The anatomical fit is enhanced by a left-right specific design that ensures an optimal fit on the foot and prevents slipping while running. The mid foot compression, called "360° Arch Support," further contributes to the secure and supportive feel.
Material & Workmanship
Markus: Made from a blend of 97% nylon and 3% elastane, these socks offer excellent moisture wicking and high elasticity. In direct comparison with typical ultra-thin competition socks, the Shyu models are noticeably thicker and softer. This extra padding ensures exceptionally high comfort, making them particularly attractive for longer runs or for runners who prefer morecushioning.
Performance
Nils: Racing Socks impress in training and competition thanks to:
Stable fit: No slipping in the shoe, even during quick changes of direction or intervals.
No friction or blistering during test runs
Light compression: Supports blood circulation and ensures a comfortable running experience.
These socks are clearly aimed at ambitious runners who care not only about function but also about aesthetics. Anyone who regularly participates in competitions and values details will find what they are looking for here.
Markus: I also received the "Training" version to test. While both versions are similar in terms of material, according to the manufacturer, the "Racing" socks are slightly lighter and have less padding than the "Training" version, which is designed for everyday use and higher mileage.
My subjective impression is that they are identical. The scales also show that the racing and training versions weigh the same.
The reflective highlights are a well-thought-out feature. Depending on the model, there is a small reflective logo in the Achilles tendon area, which discreetly increases visibility when running at dusk or in the dark.
Shyu running socks are highly recommended for anyone looking for an extremely comfortable running partner. The combination of flat seams, anatomical fit, and comfortable, slightly thicker padding ensures a first-class wearing experience.
For pure competition minimalists, they may actually be a little too warm on hot summer days, but for the majority of training runs and for anyone who prioritizes comfort over minimal weight, they are an excellent choice.

Design & Cooperation
The Fly Singlet is the result of a collaboration with Black Sheep Cycling, another Australian brand known for high-quality performance clothing for cycling. You notice this immediately: the singlet not only feels high-quality, but also impresses with its modern and eye-catching design. Since I personally love bright colours, SHYU & Blacksheep have won me over!
Material & Cut
The singlet is made of an ultra-light mesh material that is barely noticeable on the skin. It is extremely breathable and dries quickly – ideal for hot summer days or intense workouts. In fact, its honeycomb structure is very reminiscent of the material used in the SOAR Racing Vest – in my opinion, the absolute gold standard when it comes to singlets. However, the material feels slightly less soft on the skin than that of the SOAR singlet. Compared to the Race Vest, the cut is not quite as fitted, but still athletic and close-fitting.
Overall, the Fly Singlet fits me perfectly in my regular size M. The armholes are generous, allowing for maximum freedom of movement.
Performance
I tested the singlet during various training sessions – from relaxed endurance runs to a 10 km competition.
- Excellent ventilation: No heat build-up, even in high humidity.
- Lightweight feel: You almost forget you're wearing a shirt.
- Design: I've been asked several times about the cool all-over print and matching socks.
Conclusion: SHYU delivers
With its Racing Socks and Fly Singlet, SHYU shows that it is more than just a stylish brand. Both products impress with:
- High-quality materials
- Well-thought-out design
- Clear focus on performance
If you are looking for functional yet stylish running gear, SHYU is definitely worth checking out. The products are not only visually appealing, but also technically on par with established brands.

Nils Scharff
I am 35 years young, originally from Kassel, and have been running around Heilbronn and its surrounding vineyards for 7 years now. I have been involved in all kinds of sports my whole life, often 5-7 times a week. In addition to running, climbing and bouldering have been my sports of choice for several years now. My "running career" began with a company run, which I didn't want to start completely unprepared. From that point on, I just never stopped running. I now clock up a good 4000 km a year – thanks to RoadTrailRun, always in different footwear. What's important to me during all these kilometres, whether on trails or roads, is above all switching off and exercising in nature. You'll rarely find me on a treadmill or wearing headphones. I have now run twelve marathons and recently set a PB of 2:40:05 in Berlin. In competitions, I generally run all distances from 5 km (16:59 min) and 10 km (33:09 min) to half marathons (1:15:29 h) and marathons.
Markus Zinkl is 35 years old and lives in a small village in Bavaria, Germany. He started running just to support his main sport, football. Since he stopped playing football, running has become his main sport to stay fit. He now runs 5-6 times a week, covering between 60 and 80 kilometres. Apart from a local relay race, he rarely runs in competitions. Markus runs both on trails and on roads and is an absolute gear geek. In addition to running, he spends most of his free time hiking, especially in the mountains, where his interest in gear also comes into play.
