Altra Running Torin 4 and Torin 4 Plush: First Impressions Video and Differences Details

Article by Sam Winebaum

Altra Running Torin 4 ($120)  Torin 4 Plush ($140)
LEFT: Torin 4                                       RIGHT Torin 4 Plush
Just now releasing, the Torin 4 and Torin 4 Plush offer two distinct options. Our full multi tester review is coming soon but we wanted to share some stats and a first impressions video.

Both start with a 26mm Zero Drop midsole outsole platform with the midsole made of Altra's new Quantic foam also found in the trail Superior 4 (RTR Review). Somewhat squishy and bouncy, without being mushy, the feel is softer than in the Torn 3.5.

Both share the same outsole, now on a broader platform and Altra says more decoupling for smoother transitions.

They also share Altra's A-Straps to lock the foot to the platform, and effectively in our experience.
The Plush adds a 2mm Strobel board to the stack below a premium EVA sock sock liner for a softer bouncier yes more "plush" ride than the Torn 4 standard. The standard has its sock liner glued directly to the midsole.
Men's Torin 4 Plush
The Plush has a denser engineered mesh upper and conventional tongue. We expect it will be warmer than the Torin 4 standard.
Mens' Torin 4
The Torin 4 standard has a very light airy mesh upper with a bootie construction tongue for a somewhat more secure performance fit, particularly as the rear of the shoe  The result of not including the Strobel board and lighter airier upper is that the standard is lighter and more flexible.
The Torin 4 fit is similar to the Torin 3.5, maybe a touch snugger to the rear and with less over the toes pressure and mid foot pressure, while the Plush is more relaxed at mid foot and to rear yet so far seems more secure there than the 3.5.
 Women's Torin 4
The approximately 10.2 oz / 289 g US M9 Plush can be thought of as the softer and yes again more plush daily trainer Torin, while the Torin 4 standard can be though of as the uptempo even racing, lighter at 8.7 oz /247 g, more flexible sibling

Please stay tuned for our multi tester review. Watch our video first impressions below

Still really long laces? Any idea what’s up with Altra and the crazy long laces on recent shoes?

Hi David T,
Yeah real long on Plush but fine on regular Torin. Not sure how or why this last key step happens and it is not just Altra. The laces themselves are excellent though!

How do the regular Torin 4's compare to Altra Duo? Duo has been the recent road shoe, serving me well when I'm not on the trails, but looking for a quick 1/2M shoe.
