so hi I'm Jen Schmidt with Road Trail
0:01
Run and we are here at the Eternal booth
0:04
um at Trail Con so if you want to
0:07
introduce yourself and tell us all about
0:08
it so I'm Dr desmond Wilson i'm our
0:10
chief medical officer here at Eternal
0:12
eternal is high performance healthcare
0:14
for athletes or intrinsically motivated
0:18
individuals so however you identify um
0:21
and what we do it's a cross-section of
0:23
health and performance um we our current
0:27
uh offerings it's essentially a
0:29
concierge product where an athlete comes
0:32
to us they have potentially goals in
0:34
mind related to health related to
0:36
performance um and they need a team or
0:39
want a team to help them reach those
0:42
goals or it can be baselining or it can
0:45
be they have felt
0:48
um as if they've not been listened to by
0:51
traditional uh healthcare providers And
0:54
so um when you come to us you meet your
0:57
team you have a dedicated doctor you
0:58
have a dedicated coach um we essentially
1:02
have a portion that's an assessment uh
1:05
where we look at healthbased blood
1:08
biomarkers but with a performance lens
1:10
uh we also have a physical uh uh
1:13
assessment as well we have two
1:14
assessment centers currently one in San
1:16
Francisco one in New York City uh at our
1:19
assessment centers you will do a
1:21
strength and power assessment mobility
1:23
stability uh we uh do body composition
1:26
via DEXA and then we do aerobic testing
1:29
um so assessing for V2 max we also will
1:32
do a lactate test as well um after
1:34
you've had your assessment you've met
1:36
your team we essentially uh have
1:39
something we call a round table which is
1:41
where your doctor your coach other
1:43
subject matter experts uh could be a
1:46
registered dietitian could be a uh
1:48
women's health expert convene talk about
1:52
you and kind of flip over stones and say
1:55
what is going to help this person get to
1:57
where they need to be where they want to
1:58
be uh we then reconvene with you and we
2:02
land on what we call our strategic
2:03
priorities which are essentially goals
2:06
that we've identified that we um in
2:08
concert with your input said this is
2:10
what's going to be most additive to your
2:13
life currently um and then from there
2:16
it's a really close relationship built
2:20
around habit formation built around
2:23
small habits big ones how can we you
2:26
know get you to that PR how can we just
2:29
get you back on the road whether that's
2:31
a bike whether that's you're a runner or
2:33
get you back on the golf course whatever
2:35
it might be how you identify as an
2:36
athlete um matters to us but what that
2:40
sport is does not matter because we will
2:43
um speak to it regardless
2:46
so you have this whole team around the
2:48
athletes is this kind of a complement
2:50
your traditional primary care stuff and
2:52
just more focused on the athletic
2:53
performance side so so it is a
2:56
compliment in some respects um we want
2:59
us to be your first call health related
3:01
or not um if it's something that's more
3:04
acute then certainly go to the
3:06
appropriate uh clinician like a ER or a
3:09
urgent care but for all other things we
3:12
should either be able to manage it or at
3:13
least speak to it um it's there's some
3:16
aspects that aren't necessarily like
3:19
traditional primary care i'll just give
3:21
you two examples like vaccines is not
3:24
something we would dole out because it's
3:26
the um the medical portion at least
3:28
right now is virtual so um so vaccines
3:31
would be an example something like again
3:32
like acute care acute injury acute
3:35
illness um isn't something we're going
3:37
to assess you for in person but you know
3:41
uh how do you manage a cold as a trail
3:44
runner who's running at altitude we can
3:47
talk about that right right and that's
3:48
something that maybe your traditional
3:49
primary care doctor might not be able to
3:51
do yeah or if I'm say I'm just a
3:53
generally healthy athlete but suddenly
3:54
I'm fatigued to my team and be like 100%
4:01
we talk about energy availability all
4:03
day long
4:04
cool so if you had an athlete come to
4:07
you with one of those scenarios then are
4:09
you able to prescribe them things or
4:11
it's you said it's about habit formation
4:13
behavior yeah so um from a medical scope
4:16
of p practice perspective there are
4:18
certain things that we can prescribe for
4:20
so um especially um when we think about
4:24
the biggest drivers of morbidity and
4:27
mortality in our country so uh disease
4:30
and death and those are essentially
4:32
around heart health around metabolic
4:35
disease um uh cancer prevention um so we
4:41
um can prescribe for many of those
4:44
things not everything but for example if
4:47
you have hyper lipidmia high cholesterol
4:49
that's something not only will we speak
4:51
to but we will prescribe for you have
4:53
issues with glucose regulation and it's
4:55
not related to performance because
4:57
sometimes it can be um and this is truly
5:00
an underlying issue um and we have
5:03
really pulled all of our levers uh in
5:05
the kind of lifestyle space um so
5:08
meaning um performance as well as
5:09
nutrition then yes we can prescribe
5:12
accordingly and monitor accordingly
5:15
and just going back to the the nuts and
5:16
bolts so where can people get involved
5:19
if they decide they want to Yeah
5:22
so um you can go to eternal.co so
5:28
um we have a wait list there you can
5:30
sign up and um we'll reach out to you
5:32
and hopefully get you involved all right
5:35
cool and when when do you expect to be
5:37
live and running launched oh you've
5:39
launched we launched in April we like we
5:41
have a way a weight list of about 6,000
5:43
people right now oh my gosh wow so we
5:45
have a um we have a robust weight list
5:48
um Yeah so we're here ready and
5:52
accepting members yeah very well thanks
5:55
so much for telling us about it thank
5:56
you thank you
