In the video, we review the Brooks Hyperion Max
0:03
It's Brooks's first real supermax cushion shoe with a 45 millimeter heel, 39 millimeter four foot
0:10
It features a dual density, all supercritical nitrogen infused midsole called DNA tuned
0:18
no plate here, and an abrupt rocker, which they call glide sole, which I found very effective
0:24
It is focused on comfort, and the upper and the undershoe both reflect it
0:30
This is one giant comfortable shoe. In the video, I'm going to give you my impressions from the run and all the details
0:38
Hi, everybody, Sam from Road Trail Run. Let's talk about the Brooks Glissorin Max, which is coming out in October, $200
0:49
So this is Brooks's answer to the growing trend of supermax cushions with heels well above 40 millimeters
0:57
And we have some others here. we're going to compare to, including the Ghost Max from Brooks
1:03
So this kind of shoe is really enabled, if you will, by supercritical foams
1:10
And here, Brooks has a new foam combination, which they call DNA-tuned
1:17
So we don't know exactly what the foam is, but it's definitely a dual-density foam
1:23
This central yellow, which you can see running through, it appears to be a
1:29
a core of very, very kind of bouncy foam, quite soft. And then we have an outer carrier here
1:38
You can see, which may be DNA flash of some kind or maybe a loft V3
1:46
But this is a foam package quite unlike the Ghost Max 2, which weighs about the same and has
1:54
all loft V3. It's a much duller shoe. So what did Brooks do to make this giant stack
2:01
And I'm going to tell you what the stack is here in terms of the height
2:05
The height is a huge, huge, 45 millimeter at the heel, 39 millimeter at the forefoot
2:16
And that's the only shoe that's kind of has as high, a four foot stack height is the skyward from Hoka, which checks in even higher
2:27
it checks in on the forefoot at 43, 43 versus 39, a giant of a shoe and 48 at the heel
2:37
So this is Brooks's most max cushioned shoe to date. And with this relatively soft, energetic foam package, they had to do something to keep it the roll along
2:48
And I'm going to give you my from the run impressions, but what they did is what they call their glide sole technology
2:55
You can see this very accentuated rocker and up front here. Much more accentuated than, say, in the Ghost Max
3:07
And it looks radical. It looks like that's impossible at slower paces to get past it
3:13
but no, it works really well. It works for me actually better than a comparable shoe
3:20
that's actually much lighter, the Superblast from A6. because here we're not a light shoe. We come in at a quite substantial 10.6 ounces, 301 grams in my US 8.5
3:36
which is comparable to pretty much all the other kind of shoes in its class with more or less stack height They all about the same except that Super Blast and Super Blast 2
3:48
which is much lighter due to its foam. But that doesn't take away at all from the performance of this shoe for what it's intended
3:57
And we'll talk a little bit about the upper before we, it's a super comfortable upper
4:02
We have a moderately padded tongue, no gusset, a very, very, very
4:07
rigid heel counter. This is a shoe all about comfort, comfort. And Brooks is known for their step-in feel
4:15
But here what they've done is actually made the step-in feel go from upper to all the way through
4:24
the soul, because often their step-in field didn't translate to really an effective ride in many
4:31
cases for me, but not so here and not so in their other more performance-oriented max cushion
4:40
shoe, but not nearly the stackite, the Hyperion Max 2, an excellent shoe. So if you think of this
4:48
as your sort of daily trainer faster kind of max cushion shoe, it has a plate, a nylon-type plate
4:57
They call it the speed vault. This is your kind of faster version
5:01
And here we have your, at $200, so it's not an inexpensive shoe
5:07
We have your comfort cruiser, your recovery shoe. For many of us, I think it'll be a long run shoe
5:13
It's super, super great to run kind of, just don't even feel you're moving despite the weight
5:21
So we'll get into that from the run impressions and also a bit more comparisons
5:29
There's a few I don't have right now. I don't have the mag max from Puma, a similar stack height shoe
5:37
I do have the, and I'll talk a bit about it now
5:41
the sky flow from Hoka, which is about a little more than an ounce
5:47
about 30 plus grams lighter on a slightly lower platform. It has yet more rubber
5:54
I found the rubber here kind of got in the way of the ride. It does have a supercritical EVA foam
6:01
It's sort of firmer and more responsive. It's not quite, it's more kind of a little bit more uptempo and feel than what we have here
6:11
And the Skyward X, very similar in being a bouncy kind of ride, but with a carbon plate and a yet higher stack height, a little bit more expensive, I think 225
6:22
again a very very solidly built heel counter this one this one is comparable really even with its
6:32
carbon plate and kind of excitement to our our glycerin max but the glycerin max is kind of a simpler
6:42
design no plate a yet more effective kind of toe off it's just a bit smoother more pleasant to run
6:50
and the giant skyward, which is kind of all about a bounce sensation
6:54
Here, plenty of bounce. So out-soul just a little bit, lots of rubber here
7:01
Deep rubber. Well, well-situated. Yesterday, I took them out along the coast
7:07
and my ultimate test, in addition to wet, is sand over pavement
7:14
beach sand that blows, and they did very well, very well. Among the best this year than some trail shoes And I think tribute to that you can see the patterning here There a lot of grip and the rubber is quite sticky and not overly firm
7:31
but I think this should be a durable outsole, not all over coverage
7:36
because they do want it to kind of flow. In terms of flexibility, after about 12 miles, oh, there isn't any
7:44
But we've got that great glidesole rocker up front. So I'll give you the impressions from the run
7:52
but this is just a very fine execution of what's now the kind of max
7:58
max cushion shoes of more than 40 millimeters at the heel. In fact, here we're almost 40 millimeters at the forefoot and 45 at the heels that were way up there
8:09
Very well done. So impressions from the run and a few more discussion of comparison
8:15
A beautiful day here on the New Hampshire Seaco. quite a bit of kind of nice scenery for you
8:20
Okay, let's talk about the fit. Glissorin Max. Needless to say, absolutely sumptuous
8:27
Total, total comfort. Very good foothold. This is a beefy upper, big heel counter
8:34
super well held, stable at the rear. Midfoot, no gusset tongue, none needed
8:39
It's a little bit of rotation there, the tongue. Toebox, moderately wide, not super wide
8:45
They might be a teeny touch short. Well, no, there's a full thumb there
8:52
I think they're already stretching out. Lace up once and done, really 100% focused on comfort here, not on weight, but not overdoing it
9:04
because this isn't a sloppy upper, as for example, one of the older glycerin had with the regular upper
9:11
Just terrible. This is very secure. I think those wide Brooks logo there pretty cool
9:18
I'm not sure what they do because they're on the lateral side, the ideal side. We don't have them
9:23
but they sure stand out. So I'm going to keep going. Moving along West Road here, about 940 pace
9:30
nice and smooth. What you'll feel here is just much as the upper
9:36
just deep, sumptuous cushion, but there's plenty of response also. So it's soft
9:43
responsive, not mushy, well pulled together. I would say even relatively stable
9:51
I'm noticing the width of the midfoot at 90 is quite wide
9:57
Doesn't really get in the way of the transition, but it feels wide
10:02
It could be a bit skinnier. And then the glide sole, the rocker up front, glidesole rocker, tech, very effective
10:10
That sharp-looking angle isn't as abrupt in feel as you might expect
10:18
but with 39 millimeters up front and no plate, it's tricky to get a good roll
10:27
and here Brooks has done it. Of course, our weight at 10.6 ounces is up there
10:37
No question, my US 8.5, but this is a short. shoe focused on that. Just sheer comfort and it's fun to run. So initial thoughts, sort of a more
10:52
recovery oriented shoe for the faster runner A great beginner shoe if you got the and you want to the ultimate comfort not planning on going super fast Also very nice walk I walked a bit in it
11:14
Clearly, it's in that growing category. The only shoe that's higher stack in sort of the Supermax cushion is the plated Skyward X
11:27
the only shoe lighter and quite a bit lighter a couple ounces lighter
11:34
is the A6 super blast, no plate all flight foam pro foam so
11:43
but that's a more aggressive kind of shoe not as slow paints friendly as this one
11:51
but boy is it lighter gonna keep running so there's an unmistakable
11:57
sense of really nice energetic bounce here not overly crazy unstable soft soft but really quite
12:09
responsive for such a soft shoe and a giant stack again I think outsole playing a big role
12:16
there here's another picture of the outsole so I'm just cruising along really smoothly here
12:23
yeah not really noticing the way it's there but this is an issue for those super fast days for me
12:32
For that, I'd go over to Brooks's Hyperion Max 2. Lower stack, DNA flash V2 foam, as in their elite V4 and regular Hyperion
12:46
It has a nylon plate, so some propulsion, nice and stable. That one's a really good option, if you will, in the more
12:57
Max Cushion Daily Trainer category from Brooks. While I haven't run at the Hyperion 2
13:04
same foam as Hyperion Max is a fast little shoe. We really like that one. And Josh Kerr said
13:12
his, I think you said it's world road mile, 351 and it's essentially a lightweight trainer. So Brooks is
13:20
really on the move in their Hyperion line and here their glycerin line
13:27
Never really cared for any of the glistrians before. Swoppy. But here we're moving
13:36
Gonna keep going. So this is one big shoe. You're not going to feel bogged down at any pace and probably any distance
13:46
I think I'd feel like today I could literally go on forever
13:52
Because I got no mush, lots of rebound, tons and tons of
13:57
cushion. There's for all intents and purposes zero shock transmitted through the road
14:03
but we've also got that smooth flow. So we're not like bogged down at all ever so far. Any pace
14:13
Can I finish up? It'll be about seven, seven and a half miles. And pace will be under 10-minute
14:22
miles. Very comfortable. Our Glister and Max will be available. early October, $200. The sample was provided at no cost to road trail run by Brooks
14:36
And we're also soon going to have a full multi-tester written review of the Glistrin Max
14:43
Okay, everybody, thank you very much for watching. Have a great run
