Video Reviews & Comparisons: ASICS GEL-Nimbus 24, Hoka Kawana & Nike Zoom Vomero 16. A/B Test Runs

Article and Video by Sam Winebaum

In the video I do A/B test runs to compare the fit and ride of the Nike Zoom Vomero 16, ASICS GEL-Nimbus 24, and Hoka Kawana. All three are heavier duty neutral trainers with significantly different personalities and uses.

They are fairly close in weight to each other in my US 8.5 men's samples. Vomero 16 is the lightest at 10.04 oz / 284g with Kawana the heaviest at 10.19 oz / 289g while the Nimbus checks in at 10.12 oz / 286g.

The Kawana (shown above, RTR Review) has a 30mm heel stack and 25mm forefoot and is the lower drop, rocker based option with the Vomero 16 (below RTR Review) at the same heel height but with a considerably lower 20mm forefoot and the most front flexibility of the three.

The GEL-Nimbus 24 (RTR Review) has the most heel stack at 34mm and shares a 10mm drop with the Vomero.

Their midsoles differ considerably with Nimbus 24 getting a new lighter softer bouncier Flytefoam Blast + than even the popular lively Novablast's but in dual density with a firm medial side top layer as well as mid foot support plate, the only shoe of the 3 with such a plate. The Zoom Vomero gets a firmer EVA cage with a Zoom X core while the Kawana has a single density compressed EVA foam on the widest underfoot platform.

All three have engineered mesh uppers yet differ considerably in fit and feel as illustrated in the video.

They are close in price at $140 (Kawana) to $150 (Zoom Vomero 16 and GEL-Nimbus 24). Kawana and Nimbus 24 release in January while the Vomero 16 is available now.
