Puma Running Magnify Nitro Initial Video Review, Shoe Details, and Comparisons
Article by Sam Winebaum
Puma Running Magnify Nitro ($140)
I take the Magnify Nitro for a 1st run on the NH Seacoast. The video includes details of fit, ride, and construction as well as comparisons to Velocity Nitro, Craft CTM Ultra, Brooks Aurora-BL, adidas Boston 10, Endorphin Shift, and Skechers Max Road 5.
The Magnify has a 38mm heel / 29 mm forefoot, 9mm drop and features Puma's nitrogen infused supercritical Nitro foam midsole and PumaGrip outsole. It weighs approximately 10.4 oz / 295g in a US9.

Thanks for the review, Sam. The Puma’s weight and its max cushioning seem similar to two stalwarts: the Brooks Glycerin and the Saucony Triumph. How does it compare to those two shoes? Thanks, as always, for your insights.
Hi Anonymous, Great idea! We'll do that in the written review but in brief: Invincible bouncier softer and less stable with not nearly the well executed upper while Novablast 2 a faster shoe but a narrower underfoot platform so not as easy pace friendly as Magnify. Sam, Editor
Hi Feel, Sorry for any confusion. The Puma is a more old fashioned (less bouncy lively) and heavier than the Aurora and more stable. Puma's Nitro is clearly more lively and energetic than denser and firmer (if more responsive PWRRUN in the Shift but is a bit muted by the second lower layer and full outsole rubber coverage, so a nice reliable balance that gives back more. Note Shift has a rigid rocker with final Speed Roll while Puma has some flex. As far as Triumph 19 compare both are lively but I must say I find the PWRRUN+ kind of dense in feel., more rubber ball than spring as in Nitro. Really comes down to preferences as all have tons of cushion stack. Sam, Editor
I've never seen anyone review the newer Electrify Nitro, which also uses two foams but at a lower stack and price point. Any plans to review that shoe? Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteClose for sure in stack but more “old fashioned” in feel, more ponderous older midsole foams, and geometry if also soft.

Hi Sam,
DeleteDid you mean Puma having old fashioned feel or Brooks/Saucony? Is Puma livelier than Triumph and still stable?
Thanks a lot, Sam.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review Sam. Never tried Puma before but I'm willing to test them out now.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work
Thanks David!
ReplyDeleteAll their new collection is very good except maybe strangely soft Eternity stability shoe.

It would be great to have a comparison of it against the Asics Novablast 2 and Nike Invincible. :)
