Fit and Style: I wore a women’s size small. The fit is true to size. I have other Tracksmith in medium because I need the length, but this tank has good stretch and a longer back than front, so I like that I can wear a size small (for the volume) while still having good length. My personal preference is not wearing a shirt that shows my stomach if I lift up my arms. The Horizon Tank passes that test, even in a size small.
Performance: Tracksmith says that the Horizon Tank feels like “your most-beloved tee” and works well “with jeans. ” As for the style and look, that’s very accurate in saying this. Kudos to Tracksmith for making a well-priced tank that doubles for both running and casual wear. I wouldn’t run in jeans, and do you?.., but if you do wear the Horizon Tank to run in jeans, at least you’ll look good!
The tank does feel “hot” while running as compared to other fabrics/choices, so for running purposes, the tank might work best for spring rather than in summer's heat. The tank does have some “quick-dry properties,” although during a tempo 10-miler, I found myself rolling up the tank to get some air on my torso.
Conclusions: For $48, the Horizon Tank offers sleek, good-looking Tracksmith-ness with a lower than normal Tracksmith-ness price.
The Horizon Tank is fine for running, although more so for cool to warm spring runs rather than for hot summer days. As a running tank that doubles to work well “with jeans” (as Tracksmith says) the Horizon Tank is a win.
Honestly, this is a great buy/price for a casual tank; you get the Tracksmith logo, quality, and something you can run in too. For hot weather and/or performance for running, I prefer Tracksmith’s Twilight Tank. For note: I wear a medium in the Twilight Tank and a small in the Horizon Tank. The size small Horizon Tank is longer in length as compared to the medium Twilight tank, probably because it has some stretch to the material (And also note: do NOT put the tanks in the dryer).
Session Shorts, $68
Fit and Style: I wore a women’s size small. The fit is true to size. The styling is Tracksmith, so it’s all good! The back pocket on the inside can hold a key fob and gel (but not a phone).
Performance: Tracksmith writes the fabric is “Lightweight performance,” which I think is correct. As compared to other brands, Tracksmith shorts do something special. I think it’s the liners.
You pay for the style AND the quality. The shorts are designed for “running fast,” and they work great there. The fabric is cool, and the liner is comfortable. Tracksmith liners have proven the best for me in terms of comfort and providing coverage without being too tight. I wouldn’t choose these shorts for slow effort runs because they started to bunch in the inner thigh area when I wasn’t at full length strides.
Conclusions: The Session Shorts are a great choice for tempo or paced runs. For slower runs, I’d prefer a different fabric or a longer than 2.5” inseam to prevent bunching/riding at the inner thighs. My current favorite shorts are the Tracksmith Twilight Split Shorts, which never bunch and allow good airflow during hot runs. That said, the split on those shorts is high and I like that the Session Shorts offer a bit more upper-leg privacy.
Van Cortlandt Long Sleeve, $75
Fit and Style: The Van Cortlandt style is Tracksmith. When I think Tracksmith, this is the look. The fit is refined. The “cut” is very much a women’s cut, with the length running a bit short for a longer-torso runner (like me).
Performance: Tracksmith is right: the Van Cortlandt Long Sleeve works as a single layer or outer layer when you need something light before shedding to a tank underlay. Although the cut of the style is shorter than I like, I love wearing it as an outer layer when I’m not sure if the weather is good enough to go short sleeved.
Conclusions: If you want the Tracksmith look, this is the style. For running, I prefer a less-women’s cut style, with more length. As with most Tracksmith apparel, the Van Cortlandt looks good, so it’s great to have as an outer layer on spring days even if I’m not running in it.
The sweet spot as with all Tracksmith apparel: it looks great even if you aren’t running!
