Hey everybody, it's Sam and we're at what is it, Route 112 crossing of the AT coming
0:07
that came down from Moose Lock. So we're with Chris, Nicole, and Kitchen
0:13
They're all experienced through hikers and they're having a bite here. So I'll start with Chris, who you'll notice right away ain't from here
0:25
So Chris, how's it been going on the AT? It's been going good
0:29
It's very green, much greener than the Pacific Crest Trail, a lot steeper, lots of roots
0:35
and stones, but yeah, it's been a really nice change of scenery and the whites are so beautiful
0:39
And then you're rocking the Cascadia? I am. And your pack? I've got a Polante V2, 19 inch. Cool. Cool
0:50
And Nicole, you guys started on the PCT and came this way to join Chris because of fires
0:56
but you've done the AT too, you and Kitchen. I've done the CDT, I haven't hiked out on the AT actually
1:02
Oh, wow. Okay. Oh, West Coast. Okay. And then what are you rocking
1:07
I'm rocking the Dan Durston Parkwall 55 liter, and I really like it
1:12
It's held up very well through a lot of bushwhacking and desert canyoning stuff, so it's well put together
1:20
So you're from out West. Sometimes. Sometimes. Okay, cool. I don't know about the others, I'm just a teenager
1:26
And then Kitchen, tell us what you're doing and where you've been. I have a Polante UL and I like it because it's a real minimalist pack and I pack out
1:34
like I'm a tarp tenter, I sleep on the foam, the 1 1⁄8 inch foam. I'm a real minimalist type of person, so the pack works for me. Wow
1:42
How many liters is that? I think this is 26. The Polante UL. 26? Yes. Wow
1:48
And so how far have you gone with that? Where have you been with it? With this specifically, the longest I've done is 1,300 miles with a PCT with just this bag. Wow
2:01
What did you do for water in the sketchy areas for water? So it handles, if you keep your base weight really low, it handles weight enough up to
2:10
about 25 pounds. So I usually rock like a 7 pound base weight on this, so that gives me enough wiggle room
2:16
to be able to carry like 3, 4 liters of water pretty comfortably
2:20
Okay. And everything else? Yeah. Cool. And Chris, from New Zealand, so you're enjoying our White Mountains, huh
2:27
I am. Very similar to the hiking back home, or tramping as we call it over there
2:31
But yeah, as Ketan was saying, the Polante is excellent for about up to 25 pounds, I'd
2:36
say comfortably, so I'm rocking a base weight of about 9 1⁄2 at the moment. Okay
2:41
So with food and water, yeah, you could get 2, 3 liters of water, like 3 liters of water
2:45
very easily, especially with what I quite like, the shoulder pockets on the front
2:50
Oh, they're low enough down so you can actually put bottles. Yeah. Yeah, I don't have one at the moment
2:54
That's okay. I normally throw a small bottle in one of the shoulder straps, so I would rock up to
2:58
2 1⁄2 liters. Cool. And with such a light bag, you're able to push that through the longer water carriers
3:05
on the PCT. And so, how many miles are you getting out of those Cascadias
3:09
I'd say anywhere between, I mean, it depends on the terrain, right? Yeah
3:13
I got 800 or so miles out of my last pair. Yeah. And I could have kept going, but I figured when I was hitting the whites, I should probably
3:20
have shoes. Freshen up. Yeah, which were just a little bit more grippy because I was just starting to slip on the
3:25
wetter rocks. Okay. Cool. Well, thanks, guys. Have a wonderful continuation here all the way to Katahdin
3:33
You'll enjoy Maine. It's really wild. Thank you. Thanks. Thank you very much
