Once I know the laces are clear of the garage, then I give a final snugging and then tuck into the garage. Takes a bit of practice, but it becomes quick and easy after a few tries. When you get the laces nice and snug, the top X on the laces and the laces secured by the quick release tab are both covering the opening to the lace pocket. How do you get the excess laces in the pocket if the top two rows of tightened laces are on top of the pocket? The medial side is not from what I can tell the usual super firm foam found in pronation control shoes, more the usual relatively firm Salomon foam found in other S-Lab. It is really the lateral side which is softer than usual. As to how much pronation control the medial firmer foam provides likely a bit.
Sam. Editor
Thanks for reading Road Trail Run! Does the upper relax much over time?

On the smaller size the shoe is just snug across my feet where the lacing ends but, when flexed, my freakish long middle toe is just touching the toebox. I love the Salomon S-Lab Sense and the locked in feel but am looking for something more cushioned for the CCC this summer (part of UTMB series and 100km technical mountainous trail). Do you think this would suit? I used the NB Leadville for a 100km ultra last year and thought it felt a little heavy, klunky and I had a fair amount of movement in the shoe. I prefer a more natural feel that encourages forefoot running but still want the additional cushioning if that's possible without going for something like a Hoka as they done appeal. Thanks very much!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09137641628819722835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10529476.post-69610561644153377972017-05-05T15:34:18.952-06:002017-05-05T15:34:18.952-06:00Vincent, Ultra should be roomier and less constric...Vincent, Ultra should be roomier and less constricting. I am 8.5 in both the Wings and Ultra and the Ultra upper is a more comfortable and roomy due to softer materials if a bit less supportive for very rough technical trails than the Wings. The Ultra has a relatively soft midsole for a trail shoe, less harsh than the Wings but is stable none the less. It is also more flexible. Depends on the terrain for your Ultra. The upcoming Sense Ride is another option, a bit firmer a bit more supportive than Ultra for me with the Vibe vibration reduction tech Ultra does not have and $60 less.
